About Unwritten Roads: Unwritten Roads is a mobile, multi-genre creative workshop for young adults in Maine. It was founded in 2015 by Katherine Nicoll and Laura Cowie, two Maine Teaching Artists specializing in creative writing and filmmaking. The program serves students grades K - 12 through in school residencies, afterschool programming, digital classes and summer and vacation camps throughout the State of Maine. Unwritten Roads gives youth a chance to express themselves creatively through film and become strong storytellers while given guided support in a safe space. Unwritten Roads offers programs at many diverse clubs and schools, but the mission is always the same: student-driven learning that encourages creative expression. Unwritten Roads is proud to be a mobile program. The program has a wide range of filmmaking and creative writing courses to keep kids’ minds active and expressive.
About The Telling Room: The Telling Room empowers youth through writing and shares their voices with the world. As a literary arts education organization focused on young writers ages 6 to 18, The Telling Room seeks to build confidence, strengthen literacy skills, and provide real audiences for our students, believing that the power of creative expression can change communities and prepare youth for success both now and in the future.
