For centuries, letter writing was the sole form of communication over distance and time. Journalist Malcolm Jones reflects, “The more one writes — the more relaxed the writer becomes, the more at ease they are in the act of writing and the more able to fully express thought and emotion. No other form of communication yet invented seems to encourage or support that revelatory intimacy, as much as the letter.” The perfect mix between colloquial and formal— letter writing allows the real you to appear on the page if you open up to it.
Join The Telling Room Adult Writers Workshop series on Wednesday, May 7th, 6pm - 7:30pm as we explore letter writing in the form of epistolary poems, letters to our former selves, loved ones, and letters we write and never, ever intend to send. We’ll get inspired by unreleased student work like the title piece in our forthcoming anthology, It Rains Diamonds on Neptune, by Noor Sager. Stationery, custom Telling Room postcards, and stamps will be provided. Led by teachers Jude Marx and Sonya Tomlinson.
