Crafting Your Own Climate Fiction

  • 225 Commercial Street Suite 201 Portland, ME 04101 United States (map)

Do you want to influence the world with your writing? Are you passionate about climate justice? In this program, Maine Climate Action Now and The Telling Room invite youth ages 13 to 18 to craft their own climate fiction ("cli-fi"). We’ll find inspiration in our own climate experiences and in the work of published cli-fi writers. We’ll build a solid writer’s foundation with fiction tools such as character development, world-building, narrative structure, and voice. Participants will have the opportunity to explore dystopian, utopian, and "through-topian" climate writings. This is an opportunity to transform climate anxiety and grief into powerful stories.

Join us on June 17, 18 and 20, 2024 (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday), 10:00am - 3:00pm, at The Telling Room in Portland, Maine. This program will be led by The Telling Room Teaching Artist Amy Kimball and is open to participants 13 to 18 years old. This program is free, and up to $150 stipend is available to support youth who would otherwise not be able to attend. Sign up here!
