In-School Residencies

Group of students stand with teachers and Telling Room facilitators in classroom

As a teacher, there are times when it may not be possible for your class to visit us for a field trip, or you may have a whole classroom of students you want to immerse in the writer's world. Our writers and artists can come to you for an in-school residency.

Residencies provide the opportunity to work with us for an extended period–usually 12 sessions–on an intensive writing curriculum built around our yearly theme or a subject your classroom or school is exploring. We typically run eight to ten residencies each year in area schools. In these sessions, students work extensively with writing mentors and have their original writing published in a 6x9 inch, professional grade chapbook that is unveiled at a community celebration at your school.

Costs and Additional Information

In-school residencies typically costs $4,000, but subsidies are available. If cost is a barrier, please do not hesitate to reach out.

In-school residencies must be booked at least 3 months in advance, but up to a full calendar year of advance booking is helpful for our organizational purposes.

In-school residencies meet 12 times for a minimum of one hour per session. We recommend the sessions meet 2-3 times per week over the course of the residency.
