"Thinking" by Denali Garson (Kennebec County)

Can I be measured
Can I be weighed
Is my life finite
Or its edges frayed
Am I defined by the deeds I have done
The years in my life
The amount of my fun
Are we the labels stamped in red ink
Upon our newborn heads
Or are we simply the bodies that lay at night
Resting in our silken beds
Are we the souls lit up with flame
Or are we on paper, a written name
The collection of knowledge
The weight of memory
Is it all for naught
Or is what we see and recognize
A paradox in which we are caught
Love, matter, logic, mind
Maybe we are all
Or there isn’t an answer to find
Even to recall
