"The Legend" by Morgan McKay (Franklin County)
There is a lore, a legend, a story,
Passed down for years, and still in its glory.
With centuries of telling, everybody knows,
That there once was a story about a land that glows.
The fireflies were dancing all day and all night,
The children were chanting with all of their might.
There were no fears, for the dark was nowhere to be found,
For in every direction, light was there safe and sound.
Ever wonder where the moon learned to be bright?
In the little land of light, they taught her how to pierce the night.
Ever wonder where the stars learned to beam?
In the little land of light is where they taught them to be seen.
Without this little land of light, how would it all happen?
Well that's the answer, my friend, nothing would happen.
The sun would not shine, the stars would not be bright,
Without this little land of light.
There once was a story about a land that glows,
But was it just a story? Nobody knows.
Morgan McKay is a 12 year old living in New Sharon who has dreams of someday performing on the Broadway stage! Her poem,“The Legend”, was inspired by her love of the moon, sun, and stars and how they always glow. Someday, she hopes to be a Legend too.
