"Isn't It Beautiful?" by Avalon Tate (Hancock County Winner)
Isn’t it so beautiful?
The earth is spinning, the wind is blowing, the birds are singing and we are breathing.
We are living
We are existing.
We are verbs.
And isn’t that beautiful?
Existence is not a thing. It’s an act. A dance.
You exist. You live. You breathe.
You love. You cry. You ache.
And you wish for tomorrow to never come
The earth is spinning, oceans are rising, wars are occurring, and we are screaming.
We are drowning
We are dying.
We are verbs.
And isn’t that terrifying?
Existence is not a thing. It’s an act. A dance.
With every breath we take, we hold the power of change.
Because we breathe.
We love. We cry. We ache.
And we wish that tomorrow we’ll be accepted
The earth is dying and we are denying.
We need help from each other
We are verbs.
And isn’t that a mystery?
Existence is not a thing. It’s an act. A dance.
Most of us cannot make the changes the world desperately needs.
But those of us who can, need to.
Because we love. We cry. We ache.
And screw tomorrow. Because today we need to breathe.
Avalon Tate, of Otis, is an eighth grade student at Beech Hill School. Avalon wrote his poem "Isn't It Beautiful?" about the sad state of the world currently.
