Students are always excited for WordPLAY, where we open our space to all comers between 1:30 and 4:30pm every Wednesday throughout the school year.
It's free writing time in a free writing space.
Come and bring a willingness to write, or else watch out - we'll inspire you, even if your mom made you come!
Students who come to WordPLAY may find their muse, often a professional writer-turned-coach who plunks down beside them in a beanbag chair and encourages their work. And we're open to any kind of work--some kids write with serious purpose, some for fun; all leave inspired to write more.
So come on down to 225 Commercial Street during Writing Center Hours! Students ages 8 to 18 are welcome Wednesdays, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
FAQ
Do parents stay?
While we'd love to hear the stories parents have to tell, we require that kids be on their own during Word PLAY. We have a high adult to student ratio, so everyone is well tended. Also, the Old Port has abundant options for shopping, snacking and people watching while the kids are with us, so parents are encouraged to explore.
Do kids stay the whole time?
Some do, some don't. Feel free to drop in for as long as you like at any time during the open hours.
What should I bring?
Your lucky pencil? Homework? Your two-thousand page manuscript? We have everything a writer might need on hand, but bring along whatever you need to feel inspired.
Do I need to register?
Nope. Just drop in and we'll get you settled. See you there!
